Lewis Hamilton delivered his strongest Grand Prix result since joining Ferrari, finishing second in the Canadian Grand Prix after an impressive performance in Montreal.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion produced a determined and aggressive drive to secure Ferrari’s standout result of the weekend, marking his best Sunday finish since making the switch to the Maranello team.
Lewis Hamilton was involved in a thrilling on-track battle with Max Verstappen, with the two exchanging positions during the race. After initially losing out to the Dutch driver in the opening stages at Turn 1, the Ferrari driver fought back later in the Grand Prix and reclaimed the position with a decisive move at the very same corner.
After taking the chequered flag, Lewis Hamilton’s excitement was immediately clear in his team radio message as he celebrated the result with the Ferrari pit wall.
“What a great job this weekend, this is the result we deserve, let’s keep pushing,” Lewis Hamilton said over team radio. He then added in Italian: “Grazie a tutti!” (“Thank you, everyone!”)
The result also has important implications in the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship standings, with Lewis Hamilton now moving to within just three points of Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc in the battle for third place.
