Lewis Hamilton’s victory in Barcelona could prove to be worth far more than just a race win. Following Ferrari’s latest upgrades, Andrea Stella has identified the Scuderia as Formula 1’s new technical benchmark when it comes to chassis performance.
The McLaren team principal did not hold back in his assessment: “The race gave us some very clear signals: right now, Ferrari appears to have the best chassis.” His conclusion was driven primarily by what he observed in the middle sector of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where aerodynamic downforce, stability and traction are crucial factors.
“In the middle sector, particularly through the medium-speed corners, Ferrari was the most effective car,” Andrea Stella added. However, he also pointed out that Mercedes probably remains the most complete overall package when the power unit is taken into consideration.
McLaren, meanwhile, remains focused on addressing its own shortcomings. “We are competitive in the high-speed corners, but we still struggle in the slow and medium-speed sections. We need to find more downforce and manage the tyres better.”
Lando Norris also acknowledged the strength of the Ferrari package: “With an even more powerful engine, they would be difficult for everyone to catch.”
After Barcelona, Ferrari is no longer simply a team showing signs of progress. The Scuderia has become a genuine threat, and one that the rest of the Formula 1 field can no longer afford to underestimate.
