It has officially been a month since Red Bull’s surprising announcement of Adrian Newey’s departure, with the English technician bidding farewell to the Milton Keynes team after nearly twenty seasons, which included the victory of 13 titles—seven driver and six Formula 1 constructor championships.
The decision looms
Since the announcement, the entire paddock has immediately wondered what the next move of the Colchester genius will be, who has repeatedly stated his desire to take some time before making any decision.
Age is certainly a factor not to be overlooked and the increasingly grueling seasons that teams are forced to face with the growing number of grands prix on the calendar.
However, the fateful decision seems to be looming. According to Ralf Bach, a well-known F1-Insider journalist, the British technician, along with his manager and great friend Eddie Jordan, will make his decision next week, waiting to understand which project Adrian Newey will decide to embrace.
Ferrari still seems to be the favorite to secure the British technician, but in recent hours, significant rumors have begun to circulate that Mercedes has put a decidedly substantial offer on the table, which would also include part of the team’s shares, currently held equally by Ineos, Toto Wolff, and Mercedes-Benz.
However, according to the German outlet, Adrian Newey is not entirely convinced about signing with the Brackley team, mainly due to the overbearing figure of Toto Wolff, considered too politically influential within the team, with the risk of a scenario similar to what recently happened with Christian Horner at Red Bull.
The Williams option remains alive in the background, as they too would have offered some shares. We just have to wait for the next developments, with the decision inevitably destined to shift the balance ahead of the next regulatory cycle.
