Formula 1 is ready to take a break and turn its attention to 2026. But first, the final qualifying session of the 2025 season at Abu Dhabi is about to begin—follow it with our live updates!
We have reached the closing stages of a long and eventful season. For some, it has been a disappointing year; for others, a truly memorable campaign. Now, all eyes are on the drivers: Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, and Oscar Piastri, who will go all out at Yas Marina. But first, the last pole position of the year will be decided. Follow our live coverage of Abu Dhabi qualifying starting at 15:00!
Free practice sessions have once again confirmed McLaren as the favorite, particularly with Norris, who seems determined to take the title. The team showed excellent single-lap pace, while also demonstrating consistency in long-run performance.
The pole position carries huge strategic importance: the drivers’ championship will be decided this Sunday. The battle is extremely close between the two Papaya drivers and Red Bull’s Verstappen, separated by just a few points—12 between Norris and Verstappen, 16 between Norris and Piastri. Starting at the front could be crucial in setting the tone for the final race, especially for the British driver, who currently holds the “match point.”
Qualifying in 2024
Last year, it was Lando Norris who claimed pole with a lap of 1:22.595, ahead of Oscar Piastri. McLaren locked out the front row in qualifying, putting the team in an ideal position to fight for the constructors’ championship.
Behind them, Carlos Sainz qualified third, Nico Hülkenberg surprisingly took fourth, and Verstappen was fifth. Charles Leclerc started from P19 after changing several components on his car.
Even in that season, the stakes were extremely high, with Ferrari and McLaren fighting for the constructors’ crown. Today, the focus is on the drivers’ battle, but the tension and need for precision at Abu Dhabi remain the same. If Norris can repeat last year’s qualifying performance, he could place himself in a very strong position for Sunday’s championship showdown. So, let’s dive into the Abu Dhabi GP qualifying with our live updates starting at 15:00.
