A More Modern Hungaroring
For many years, the Hungaroring circuit, located in Mogyoród near Budapest, was considered one of Formula 1’s more traditional tracks — a venue that had largely remained unchanged on the surface. While some structural upgrades were made behind the scenes, the circuit retained an old-school feel. This status eventually put it under scrutiny by Liberty Media, the American group that owns the commercial rights to Formula 1 and places significant importance on the entertainment factor surrounding a Grand Prix weekend.
From Liberty Media’s perspective, a Formula 1 race is no longer just a sporting event; it must also offer an immersive experience for spectators, complete with comfort, services, and entertainment. This requires modern, well-equipped facilities — something that the previously aging Hungaroring has recently taken seriously.
In response to these evolving expectations, the Hungarian Grand Prix venue has emerged as one of the most proactive circuits in terms of upgrades and redevelopment. In recent years, the Hungaroring has made substantial investments in its infrastructure and hospitality services. These two elements — comfort and modern amenities — have become increasingly central to Formula 1’s long-term vision, helping Hungary secure a place on the championship calendar through to the 2032 season.
Building on the momentum of its 2024 event, the Hungaroring’s management has continued to focus on improvement. Major renovation efforts have been implemented across the venue, particularly targeting the pit building (also known as the paddock or pit complex), the main grandstand, and other trackside facilities.
New Photos Highlight the Changes
The official Instagram account of Formula 1 recently shared a series of photos showcasing the extensive upgrades made to the Hungarian Grand Prix circuit. These images give fans a first glimpse of the refreshed venue, now better prepared to host future F1 events with an emphasis on modern comfort and spectator engagement.
A Key Fixture in Formula 1’s Calendar
Hungary has held a permanent place on the Formula 1 World Championship calendar since 1986, making it one of the longest-standing and most reliable venues on the tour. The upcoming Grand Prix weekend will mark the 40th running of the Hungarian Grand Prix — a testament to its enduring role within the global F1 championship.
This consistency has helped establish the event as a mainstay in the sport’s annual rotation, deeply rooted in Formula 1’s tradition and heritage. With the newly completed renovations, the Hungaroring is not only preserving its legacy but also taking meaningful steps toward remaining relevant and competitive in the future landscape of Formula 1.
