Aston Martin is preparing to strengthen its Formula 1 team with another key signing — a familiar face for Ferrari fans. After securing Adrian Newey and Enrico Cardile, the Silverstone-based team is not done with its recruitment campaign for the 2026 season. The latest name on their list is another ex-Ferrari engineer who could be making his return to the Formula 1 paddock after 13 years away. The person in question is Marco Fainello, a 61-year-old Italian engineer known for his expertise in simulation technology. With the new regulations set to arrive in 2026, Aston Martin aims to capitalize on this reset opportunity to position itself among the top teams capable of fighting for the world championship.
Marco Fainello currently serves as Chief Technology Officer at Danisi Engineering and also as Executive Director at the Turin-based company Add-For. Thanks to the recommendation of Enrico Cardile, the Italian engineer is now reportedly ready to rejoin the Formula 1 world as a technical consultant for Aston Martin.
A Ferrari past and an F1 legacy
Just like Enrico Cardile, who joined Aston Martin this year after leaving Ferrari in July 2024, Marco Fainello is also a product of the Maranello school. The Italian engineer played an important role within the Scuderia during the Michael Schumacher era. He joined Ferrari in 1995 as a vehicle engineer and, just two years later, became Head of Vehicle Dynamics. However, the real turning point in his career came in 2004, when he contributed to the development of Ferrari’s first-ever Formula 1 simulator — a project that revolutionized the team’s approach to car setup and driver training.
Marco Fainello’s career later extended beyond Formula 1. He turned his focus to Ferrari’s road car division, where he helped develop the Side Slip Control system — a technology now featured on all Ferrari production models. He also oversaw the development of the Ferrari 458 GTE for the FIA World Endurance Championship, further broadening his technical portfolio and influence within the automotive world.
Now, Marco Fainello is preparing for a new challenge with Aston Martin, returning to the Formula 1 paddock to contribute his vast experience as the team gears up for the new 2026 regulations — a season that promises to redefine the competitive order in the sport.
