In Budapest, tests are underway for Pirelli 2026 tires after the Hungarian GP: Ferrari, Racing Bulls, McLaren, and Alpine in action
The Hungaroring weekend not only marks the end of the first part of the Formula 1 season but also kicks off a crucial testing phase for the 2026 championship, involving Ferrari and other teams. On Tuesday, August 5, and Wednesday, August 6, the Hungarian circuit is hosting Pirelli test days dedicated to the development of tires for the 2026 season.
This session is an integral part of the approval process for the new tire specifications, which must be homologated by September 1 for construction and by December 15 for compounds. For this reason, the Budapest tests represent a key step for Pirelli and the involved teams during a major transition period for Formula 1’s technical regulations.
Which teams are participating in the Pirelli tests after the Hungarian GP?
Four teams are leading the post-GP testing:
Ferrari – present today
Racing Bulls – present yesterday
McLaren – present yesterday
Alpine – present yesterday
During the tests, work is being done on two distinct fronts: on one side, the definition of the 2026 tire constructions; on the other, the experimentation with prototype compounds, which will require further testing throughout the year.
Upcoming test dates
Besides Budapest, Pirelli’s testing calendar includes six additional days of track activity:
2 days at Monza
2 days at Mugello
2 days in Mexico City
These sessions will be essential to finalize the tire specifications that will equip the cars under the new 2026 regulations, a year that will also bring a turning point in power units and aerodynamic efficiency.
Pirelli, the exclusive tire supplier for Formula 1, continues to work closely with the teams to ensure maximum performance and safety in a constantly evolving technical landscape.
