Ferrari outscores Mercedes at Spa
Ferrari collected the largest points total of any team at the Belgian Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc finished second and Lewis Hamilton crossed the line in fourth, giving the Maranello team a combined haul of 30 points.
Mercedes scored 25 points, all of them delivered by race winner Andrea Kimi Antonelli. George Russell failed to contribute after being eliminated during the opening lap, meaning Ferrari took five points out of Mercedes’ constructors’ championship lead.
The result represented an encouraging outcome for Ferrari on a circuit that was expected to expose some of the SF-26’s weaknesses. Charles Leclerc had expressed measured expectations before the weekend when discussing Ferrari’s prospects at Spa-Francorchamps, particularly because of the Belgian circuit’s long straights and demanding energy-management requirements.
Ferrari nevertheless managed to place both cars inside the top four. The team’s strong points haul also followed a weekend in which several technical changes were introduced across the grid, as detailed in the Belgian GP pit-lane upgrade analysis.
Mercedes still holds a 73-point championship advantage
Despite Ferrari’s gains in Belgium, Mercedes remains firmly in control of the constructors’ championship. The German team leaves Spa with 358 points, compared with Ferrari’s 285, maintaining a substantial 73-point advantage.
Ferrari’s latest result does, however, strengthen its position in second place and increases the importance of consistency over the coming rounds. Fred Vasseur and the team have continued to adopt a cautious public approach to their championship prospects, despite the positive signs behind the discussion over whether Ferrari is downplaying its title ambitions.
Red Bull closes on McLaren as midfield battles tighten
Red Bull and McLaren also enjoyed solid Sundays at Spa. McLaren remains third in the standings with 195 points, but Red Bull has moved closer to the Woking team and now sits 44 points behind on 151.
The fight for fifth place is even closer. Racing Bulls has drawn level with Alpine, with both teams now on 61 points. Alpine retains fifth place in the supplied classification, while Racing Bulls occupies sixth.
Further down the order, Audi has moved firmly into contention against Williams. Williams has 11 points in eighth place, with Audi only one point behind after adding to its total in Belgium.
Haas remains seventh with 21 points, while Aston Martin has scored one. Cadillac is still waiting for its first constructors’ championship point of the 2026 Formula 1 season.
