Mercedes has opened a commanding 122-point advantage over Ferrari in the 2026 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship after completing a one-two finish at the Italian Grand Prix. Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s victory ahead of George Russell strengthened Mercedes’ position at the top, while a difficult home race left Ferrari facing an increasingly challenging championship situation.
The contrast was particularly painful for the Scuderia given the expectations surrounding Monza and the debut of the second ADUO development step for its Power Unit. Ferrari had hoped the upgrade would help reduce one of the SF-26’s key weaknesses, but the Italian Grand Prix race result instead allowed Mercedes to make another major gain in the championship.

Mercedes stretches championship lead over Ferrari to 122 points
Mercedes dominated the decisive outcome at Monza, with Andrea Kimi Antonelli and George Russell securing the top two positions. The result lifts the German team to 468 points and gives it a 122-point cushion over Ferrari, which remains second on 346.
It is a substantial advantage at this stage of the season and makes Mercedes the clear benchmark in the constructors’ championship. Ferrari, meanwhile, leaves its home Grand Prix with far more ground to recover than it had hoped, particularly after the attention placed on the ADUO 2 Power Unit upgrade at Monza.
The championship is not mathematically over, but the Mercedes one-two represents another major step towards the title and increases the pressure on Ferrari over the remaining rounds.
McLaren is now only 59 points behind Ferrari
Ferrari’s problem is no longer limited to trying to catch Mercedes. McLaren sits third on 287 points, only 59 behind the Scuderia, meaning Ferrari must also pay close attention to the battle behind.
Red Bull remains fourth with 204 points, leaving a significant gap to the top three. Racing Bulls occupies fifth on 75, while Alpine has moved to within 13 points after gaining three points on its rival at Monza.
Only six teams scored points at the Italian Grand Prix, allowing Alpine to make a small but useful gain in the fight for fifth position.
Ferrari now needs to regroup quickly as the championship moves on from Monza. The remaining races on the 2026 Formula 1 calendar still provide opportunities to respond, but Mercedes’ 122-point advantage has made the challenge significantly more difficult.
