2026 Dutch GP live: the starting grid at Zandvoort
Lando Norris secured pole position in Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session. The reigning world champion will start the Zandvoort Grand Prix from the front of the grid, with George Russell’s Mercedes alongside the British driver on the front row after George Russell had already claimed victory in the Sprint.
The second row will feature the other Mercedes of championship leader Kimi Antonelli and Oscar Piastri’s McLaren. Ferrari, meanwhile, has to look further down the starting order, with both SF-26 cars occupying the third row.
Lewis Hamilton will start from fifth place, with Charles Leclerc alongside him in sixth. It was not the qualifying result Ferrari had hoped for, with the Maranello team proving less effective than its main rivals when preparing the car and tyres for the decisive single-lap effort.
Ferrari nevertheless has greater confidence heading into Sunday’s race. The SF-26 appears more comfortable over longer runs, meaning the 72 laps around Zandvoort could offer Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc an opportunity to make progress through the field.
Zandvoort weather remains a factor for the Dutch GP
The Dutch Grand Prix weekend has so far been characterised by passing showers and strong gusts of wind. Teams are therefore likely to keep a close eye on the clouds around Zandvoort throughout Sunday, even though the probability of rain during the race is not currently considered particularly high.
Weather conditions can still play an important role at the exposed coastal circuit, especially because changing wind and track conditions can influence car balance and tyre behaviour. The latest outlook for the weekend is available in our Zandvoort weather forecast.
Dutch GP strategy: one stop or two at Zandvoort?
The 2026 Dutch Grand Prix could produce several different strategic scenarios. According to Formula 1’s sole tyre supplier Pirelli, teams could consider either a one-stop strategy or a two-stop approach during the race.
The choice will depend on tyre degradation, track conditions and how effectively each car can manage its compounds over a stint. With overtaking traditionally difficult around Zandvoort, the timing of the pit stops and the ability to protect track position could become especially important. A detailed look at the available options can be found in our analysis of the Pirelli tyre strategy for the Dutch GP.
Ferrari will therefore start the Grand Prix with work to do after qualifying, but Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will hope that the SF-26’s stronger long-run behaviour can give them more opportunities once the 72-lap race gets under way.
