The qualifying session for the Italian Grand Prix will be more “precious” than usual. A unique prize has been prepared for the driver who secures pole position at the Monza circuit.
This was revealed by Paolo Pilotto, the Mayor of Monza, during the press conference that kicks off the race weekend in Brianza.
The conference touched on many important topics, including the thorny issue of Monza’s renewal with F1. Both Angelo Sticchi Damiani and Stefano Domenicali discussed the ongoing negotiations.
However, stealing the spotlight was the ring that will be awarded to the fastest driver in Monza’s qualifying session. It is a precious piece of craftsmanship, made of gold and adorned with gemstones in the colors of the Italian flag, representing the history of the city of Monza and symbolizing the checkered flag.
The Mayor’s words
“These are three important days. Half the world is coming together. And within this idea of half the world meeting, we as the Municipality of Monza wanted to contribute with a small gesture.”
“A small but very valuable object, created by a local goldsmith named Guido Guzzi. This will launch an initiative we hope to replicate over time: the presentation of the queen’s ring to the pole position winner. This is a sign of Monza and Brianza’s creativity within this context, and also a token of recognition for the value of sport.” – he explained.
“On the other hand, it’s also a testimony to the history of a people. The queen’s ring harks back to the Lombard history of our city, Queen Theodolinda, and all that will follow, but if you wish, there will be opportunities to explore this further.” – Paolo Pilotto concluded, as reported by f1ingenerale.
