Formula 1 is heading towards the doubleheader in Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi that will conclude the season. It is not yet certain whether there will be component replacements and consequent grid penalties in Nevada, despite the failures that led to some retirements in Brazil. Charles Leclerc’s incident at Interlagos was caused by a problem with the system that shut down the hydraulic system and the engine, external to the central components of the power unit. Mercedes, on the other hand, decided to withdraw George Russell’s car, considering the imminent failure of the engine. However, it was already planned that Brazil would be the last race for the unit in question, which is why the homologation of a new PU for the English driver will not be necessary in Las Vegas.
The updated table of components used by teams in the 20 Grand Prix races so far shows that Mercedes and Alpine-powered cars continue to comply with the limit of 4 power units per season. Lando Norris, in particular, still has room to homologate a new unit of turbo, MGU-K, and MGU-H without incurring grid penalties. Some of the Ferrari and Red Bull Powertrain users, however, have been forced to homologate the fifth seasonal block. This is the case for Red Bull with Sergio Perez, AlphaTauri with Yuki Tsunoda, Alfa Romeo with Zhou Guanyu, and both Haas drivers.
