Valtteri Bottas led a close first practice session at the Autodromo do Algarve in Portugal, pipping Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by two-hundredths of a second.
Scuderia Ferrari again looked strong in the opening practice session at the Portimao Circuit with Charles Leclerc finishing fourth. The Monegasque driver completed 26 laps, with a personal best of 1’19.884, which was just less than three tenths behind Valtteri Bottas’ benchmark in the first practice session for the 2021 Portuguese GP
A cooling fan from Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari dropped at the end of the pitlane creating an interesting start to the session. A steward retrieved the part after the drivers made swerves to avoid the part. The Spanish driver eventually finished ninth, with 26 laps, just like Charles, and a personal best lap time of 1’20.680, although a few small mistakes prevented Carlos from achieving a better time in his fastest lap of FP1.
