Max Verstappen has won the 2021 Mexico City Grand Prix. It is his third win at this track and what a dominant one it was – and after starting third on the grid behind two Mercedes no less. What a performance for the Dutchman and Red Bull in their battle with Mercedes.
All sorts of clashes in the pack as Valtteri Bottas was spun around into T2, while Tsunoda and Mick Schumacher were out after the first two corners. Bottas and Ricciardo have went into the pits under the Safety Car. A good start for Charles Leclerc who was in fifth place at the end of the first lap, while Carlos Sainz lost a position as compared to his starting place.

For Max Verstappen it was a perfect restart as he avoided being slipstream and maintained his early lead into Turn One, while Carlos moved up to P6 with a nice overtaking move on Antonio Giovinazzi. At this stage, Pierre Gasly was running fourth for AlphaTauri and was as close to Perez in front of him as the Ferrari cars behind him. While making no impression on Pierre Gasly ahead of them, but Ferrari’s race was going along nicely enough in the top six, building a solid gap in front of the Aston Martin of Sebastian Vettel.
Ferrari tried to undercut the AlphaTauri, but Charles Leclerc was stuck behind Fernando Alonso in his first lap after the pit stop and was not able to put it a strong lap and take advantage of his fresh tyres. A different strategy for Carlos Sainz, as Ferrari decided to extend his first stint as long as possible, but still not enough to use the soft tyre in the final part of the race. Carlos returned on track with the hards and was seven seconds behind his teammate, which means that unfortunately Ferrari had no response to beat the AlphaTauri of Pierre Gasly in the battle for fourth place at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Charles was then informed by Ferrari that he should swap positions with Carlos Sainz, who was running behind him in sixth but was much quicker on fresher tyres. Ferrari wapped their drivers around with Carlos into fifth.12 seconds to try and make up on Gasly in as many laps though, which was difficult to achieve for the Spanish driver. With one lap to go until the end, the Maranello team’s drivers switched places again.
P5 and P6 for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in the 2021 Mexican Grand Prix and Scuderia Ferrari regains third place in the Formula 1 Constructor Standings, as rivals McLaren could only score one point with Lando Norris in P10.
