Local favorite Max Verstappen was 0.5s and 0.7s faster than Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton in the final free practice session for the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix at the Zandvoort circuit.
Unfortunately Carlos Sainz’s final practice ended after only 20 minutes, due to a heavy crash into the Turn 3 barriers for the Ferrari driver. He carried a little too much speed into the corner, understeered, and that camber change caught him out. Heavy damage to the Ferrari SF21 car, as the Maranello team’s mechanics will attempt to repair the damage and hope that the gearbox and power unit are ok ahead of the qualifying session later today.
With Carlos Sainz out of the action, Charles Leclerc was left waving the flag for Scuderia Ferrari but he was not quite been able to replicate his Friday pace this morning. The Monegasque driver finished down to ninth after his soft-tyre lap, with a personal best lap time of 1:10.896, which was 1.2seconds off the pace.
