After the first free practice session for the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix was interrupted for a long time due to a technical issue on Sebastian Vettel’s Aston Martin car, FP2 was also shortened by two red flags: Lewis Hamilton stopped on track after ten minutes from the start of the season, while Nikita Mazepin beached his Haas with 25 minutes until the end.
And what a second practice it was for Ferrari! The team who often shine on these sort of circuits have done so again in the hands of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, leading a one-two to end Ferrari.
The best lap times of the day were done on soft tyres in the last 15 minutes. We have seen Ferrari strong on circuits where you don’t need a lot of power and the Zandvoort track could really suit the Maranello team, based on the indications from FP2: Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc was only driver able to get below the 1.11 benchmark, with a 1:10.902 which was one and a half tenths faster than the best lap time of his teammate Carlos Sainz, making it a perfect afternoon for the Italian side, who will try to get involved in the fight between Mercedes and Red Bull for a podium finish.
A few drivers were lower than expected today, such as George Russell (20th) and Daniel Ricciardo (14th). Sergio Perez was only 12th, one second off the best lap time of Charles.
