Max Verstappen fastest by a long way in a Red Bull one-two: the Dutchman set a time of 1:56.924 which was nearly a second faster than his teammate Sergio Perez in the sister Red Bull. Lewis Hamilton set the third fastest time in his Mercedes, just a tenth off Perez’s time, but don’t read too much into the timesheet from the third free practice session ahead of qualifying for the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix. Everyone will be watching those skies!
It was mainly dry during the first two practice sessions on Friday, but for final practice at we had a rather wet hour. Rain fell overnight and this morning, and it was still coming down at the start of FP3. Such were the conditions, the some drivers have even fitted the full wet compound for the early stages of third practice.
Ferrari tried to bring several different setup configurations in an attempt to improve the balance and the drivers’ feeling with the car after a difficult Friday afternoon, but the changes did not offer the expected results: Carlos and Charles were not at all happy with the handling of their SF21, as both reported several times on the team radio.
In the end both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finished far outside the top ten, with the Spanish driver in 14th place almost four seconds off the best lap time of the day, followed by Haas driver Mick Schumacher and his Monegasque teammate.
