Max Verstappen has won the Austrian Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver claimed a second consecutive victory at the Red Bull Ring, having triumphed in Styria one week earlier. The Dutchman, who leads the Formula One drivers’ standings this season, emerged victorious from pole position as Valtteri Bottas was second.
Not a great start from Carlos Sainz as the Spanish driver lost several places, but a difficult start which can be explained by the fact that Carlos began the race with the Hard tyres, which proved useful in the second half of the race. Charles Leclerc started the Austrian Grand Prix on the medium tyres and was soon involved in a great battle with the Red Bull of Sergio Perez, as the Red Bull driver was handed a five-second penalty for forcing the Monegasque off the track.
In the final stages of the race, Charles Leclerc got close to the McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo but was unable to get passed him, while Carlos recovered from behind on fresh medium tyres. Once behing Charles, the Monegasque driver let his teammate get in front, with Carlos who managed to overtake Ricciardo in the final lap, an important pass for Ferrari’s fight with McLaren in the championship. Not only that, Carlos Sainz took fifth as he was within 10 seconds of Perez before his penalties were added at the end of the race!
Charles finished in P8.
