The Hockenheimring is a fascinating circuit that lies in the woods of Baden-Württemberg, and was originally a test track for Mercedes-Benz. In 2002, a project was launched to shorten the circuit and remove the sectors which were in the deep forest. These sectors were an outstanding characteristic of the circuit, but has also seen plenty of dangerous accidents throughout the years.
Today the Hockenheimring is a fast circuit constituted of 6 ghastly straights and 17 bends, most of which are still relatively fast. With large ranges of overtaking maneuvers, Hockenheim hosts a thrill-packed Grand Prix race for an audience of up to 120.000 cheering fans.
2019 German Grand Prix weather forecast (Weather Hockenheim):
From the Formula 1 teams’ point of view, different weather conditions can result in very different races, and Formula 1 teams adapt their strategy accordingly, for example using different tyres in wet conditions, and taking account of cross winds which can cause stability problems at high speeds. It is always well worth checking the weather before any grand prix as it can often throw a curve ball into the mix, especially given the fact Hockenheim has always been unpredictable.
With temperatures set to soar again in Europe this week, it could have a significant knock-on effect for Mercedes in the German Grand Prix. A similar period of high temperatures hit the continent around the Austrian GP last month, exposing cooling deficiencies in the W10 and condemning the Silver Arrows to their sole winless race of 2019 so far.
The mercury will be jumping in Hockenheim this week, with temperatures set to hit the higher 30s Celsius in the week. However, Saturday will bring cooling storms, which could significantly shake up qualifying, and the race is set to play out in less kinder heat. If things are jumbled up, we could be on for another classic!
