The old Hockenheimring used to be a 6.8km race through deep forest but was dramatically remodelled because the forest caused many issues for broadcasters and organisers. In 2002 a major redesign took place, cutting out the large forest section, making it a much shorter and tighter circuit – but still fast. In 2018, Scuderia Ferrari German driver and home hero Sebastian Vettel made a crucial error by skidding out on a slow corner, toppling the championship battle on its head. Taking place mid-season, the German GP always brings the drama and the headlines as the championship fight heats up.
