A successful day’s work for Antonio Giovinazzi at the Hungaroring Circuit, as Scuderia Ferrari’s reserve driver completed over 100 laps with just two hours to go in the first day of the official in-season testing session which took place today near Budapest.
Antonio posted a time that is faster than anything Sebastian Vettel or Kimi Raikkonen managed at the Hungarian Grand Prix, a 1:15.870, that was set on the hypersoft tyre. That 1:15.870 is also the fastest lap ever set at the Hungaroring, though it will have to be an unofficial track record given that it was done on a testing day. Soon after, the session was stopped, as Sean Gelael went off in the Toro Rosso during his Pirelli tyre test.
Day One timesheet (3pm):
1) Antonio Giovinazzi, Ferrari – 1:15.870

Ferrari junior Antonio Giovianzzi also led the field in the first part of day 1 of Formula 1’s in-season test at the Hungaroring. The young Italian, who will switch over to Sauber on Wednesday, clocked in with a best time of 1m19.648s achieved on Pirelli’s soft compound tyres after completing 66 laps. It was a smooth morning session overall with no drama to report. Lando Norris, who is McLaren’s exclusive driver for the two-day test, was second, 0.318s behind Giovinazzi while Force India’s Nicholas Latifi was third, 0.028s behind Norris.
Force India, Williams and Red Bull all trialed a 2019-spec front wing early on in the session.
