Scuderia Ferrari German driver Sebastian Vettel is confident that there is still more pace to extract from the SF70H car after the first day of running ahead of the 2017 Italian Grand Prix. Sebastian ended both Friday practice sessions in third place, with the qualifying runs only putting him one and a half tenths away from the fastest time set by Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas in the second practice session.
The German driver admitted that he did not have the smoothest of days, given the fact that his long run was interrupted by traffic and a virtual safety car. With Scuderia Ferrari hoping to celebrate its 70th anniversary by winning its home race on Sunday, Sebastian Vettel thinks a little more is yet to come from the Maranello team tomorrow:
“I am not entirely happy because we had a bit of a mixed run with a lot of traffic and the virtual safety car. It wasn’t the ideal long run we were looking for but I guess it was the same for everyone. It was not completely the day we wanted in dry conditions because of the mixed afternoon but all in all we have enough data to go through and improve a couple of things for tomorrow then we can be better. There are a couple of things that we need to do better like with the car balance and the stability under braking which is important around here to get the confidence. With the low downforce here you need to have the confidence to just throw the car in and stop thinking about it. We are not where I think we can be yet but I think we should be a bit better tomorrow.” – Scuderia Ferrari German driver Sebastian Vettel explained, as reported by the Italian media at the end of the second practice session on Friday.
