The 2025 Dutch Grand Prix turned into a complete disaster for Ferrari. At Zandvoort, the Maranello team suffered a double retirement that weighed heavily on both the championship standings and the morale of the squad, just days away from their home race at Monza.
Lewis Hamilton crashed into the barriers after a mistake in the corner, while Charles Leclerc was forced to retire following contact with Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Both Ferrari drivers left the Netherlands empty-handed, in what was a dark Sunday that allowed Mercedes to close the gap in the Constructors’ Championship.
Writing in the Corriere della Sera, Giorgio Terruzzi summed up the bitterness of Ferrari’s weekend: “It went reasonably well for Charles, very badly for Kimi who, however, showed a new vitality on track, a fresh determination. Antonelli, when he makes mistakes, he does so against Verstappen (in Austria) or Leclerc (in the Netherlands), and the consequences are always worthy of the names involved.”
The spotlight then turned to Lewis Hamilton, who endured a weekend to forget: “The story changes when it comes to Hamilton: he too is hungry and has been pushing to the limit all weekend, finding it only in flashes. But whenever he gains a few precious tenths, he then loses control of the car: it happened in qualifying, it happened in the race, with very heavy consequences.” – he pointed out.
The commentary grew even harsher when looking ahead to the immediate future, with Monza fast approaching: “He will improve, without a doubt, but time is running out. Seeing Lewis Hamilton trying to piece Ferrari back together before Monza, where he will also start with a penalty, conveys a sense of melancholy mixed with tenderness. The time for dreams has already expired.” – Giorgio Terruzzi concluded.
A reflection that perfectly captures Ferrari’s complicated moment: between mistakes, misfortune and technical difficulties, the pressure on the Maranello team ahead of their home Grand Prix could not be higher.
