Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz has explained that the budget cap prevented the Maranello team from managing and eliminating the wind sensitivity that characterizes the SF-23. After a promising start to the 2022 Formula 1 season, Scuderia Ferrari hoped to return to the top of the world championship fight. Unfortunately for the many fans, the Maranello team has not yet managed to reach the top step of the podium this season.
The Italian side has not had a consistent first part of the year, to the point where Carlos Sainz stated that the Maranello team must try to maximize everything during the summer break. “It was obviously a relatively frustrating start when we realized that Red Bull was well ahead of us and it would be difficult to challenge them,” he said. “I think we all expected the car to be more competitive. Now we are going through these huge ups and downs where some weekends you might be fighting for third place and others you’re only finishing P8. And now we just have to accept it, that’s the fight we’re in.” – the Spanish driver pointed out.
Carlos Sainz admitted that the wind sensitivity of the SF-23 is an issue that cannot be resolved this year due to the budget cap limitations. “Well, the direction and the idea are very clear, and now we’re pushing at the factory to solve the problem,” he explained. “It’s just that during a year, it’s quite complicated, especially in the era of the budget cap. It’s rather difficult to suddenly change everything, but the direction has been given and now we’re back at the factory, in the simulator, developing the car and trying to understand.” – the Ferrari man concluded.
