Speaking in an interview for the Italian daily newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport, Antonio Giovinazzi shared his emotions about the historic victory achieved with Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last weekend. Here is an excerpt of his comments:
Antonio Giovinazzi’s words:
“To be honest, I still struggle to fully understand what happened. Winning at Le Mans in the Centenary race, after 50 years of absence and 58 years without a victory, feels like the scenery of a movie: ‘The perfect day,'” the 30-year-old former Formula 1 driver began, speaking to the well-known Italian newspaper. He then added:
“I am incredibly proud of the work carried out with Alessandro, James, the technicians, and the engineers. And if I think back to the fact that we only got in touch with the 499P in July of last year…” – he pointed out.
When asked about the moment he thought, ‘We really won,’ Antonio Giovinazzi honestly replied: “When Alessandro crossed the finish line, not a meter before: that’s how it is at Le Mans.” And regarding the possibility of aiming for the World Championship, he was equally honest: “We’ll give it a try, you never know. Meanwhile, the next race is at Monza, and we’ll be playing on home turf…”

Finally, referring to his disappointing experience in Formula 1, he said: “A comeback after the disappointment in Formula 1? No, I see the positive side: winning something significant with Ferrari, which was the dream I had as a child. And we made history. In reality, I always had confidence in myself, I knew what I had inside, my abilities, and I was just waiting for the right opportunity to prove it. I’m happy to have had that chance and to have been able to seize it. I thank Antonello Coletta and Amato Ferrari for believing in me.” – Antonio Giovinazzi concluded.
