Following the race in Suzuka, the faces inside the Prancing Horse garage were anything but calm. Charles Leclerc himself, by now known for his inability to hide emotions during interviews, appeared before the microphones with an expression that revealed concern about the SF-25’s level. For this reason, Ferrari spent considerable time evaluating whether or not to debut the new floor—one of the updates announced by Fred Vasseur—in Bahrain.
“We’ll bring new parts soon, but we must first resolve the balance issues,” declared the Scuderia’s team principal at the end of the third race of the year. Words that hinted at a certain division within the Maranello team. As already leaked in recent days, it seems that on one side, Fred Vasseur and Loic Serra want to focus first on improving the SF-25’s balance (and only later introduce the new components), while on the other, the engineers are pleased with the simulation results. For this reason, they were pushing for the new floor to be used already in Bahrain.
What will Ferrari do? The decision ahead of Bahrain
Just hours before the start of the fourth weekend of the 2025 season, Ferrari’s decision has arrived. The SF-25 will take to the track in Sakhir with the new floor, in the hope of immediately achieving a performance improvement. The confirmation came from Charles Leclerc during the press conferences that opened the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend.
We remind you that in the first free practice session, Dino Beganovic will be driving Charles Leclerc’s car. The young talent from the Ferrari Driver Academy will help Maranello’s technicians compare the old and new solutions that will be used over the Sakhir weekend.
It will be interesting to understand if, and to what extent, the Scuderia will gain from this first update of 2025. Tifosi hope that Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will be able to close the gap separating them from the two McLaren cars and Max Verstappen.
