Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has discussed the possibility of Peter ‘Bono’ Bonnington also joining Ferrari with Lewis Hamilton.
After the announcement of Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, many have wondered if Peter ‘Bono’ Bonnington will follow the British driver in his new adventure. The two are indeed connected by a very close relationship that has been one of the keys to their many successes at Mercedes.
Furthermore, Ferrari fans have long been asking for a change among the race engineers who support the Prancing Horse drivers. While Riccardo Adami has shown his ability to manage Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz, Xavier Marcos has often been seen as one of the weak points within Ferrari. With unclear communications and Charles Leclerc frequently expressing frustration, many would like to see a change in personnel.
In this regard, the arrival of Lewis Hamilton has immediately sparked rumors about the possible move of Peter Bonnington to Maranello. Toto Wolff commented on the seven-time world champion’s departure from the Silver Arrows. “It’s something we will discuss in the coming months. For now, I can only say that when I told him Lewis was going to Ferrari, he asked me if it was already April 1st. We will talk about it in the future,” said the Team Principal of Mercedes.
Nothing is defined at the moment, but the situation regarding Lewis Hamilton’s longtime race engineer seems to be a slightly open door. Having Bono with him at Ferrari would undoubtedly help the British driver feel immediately comfortable in what will likely be the last significant adventure of his career.
