In recent days, rumors about a potential departure of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton from Ferrari in 2027 have intensified. The speculation was fueled by Charles Leclerc’s sixth-place finish and Lewis Hamilton’s eighth-place in Singapore, as well as ongoing brake issues. However, as of now, nothing concrete has been confirmed.
The start of next season could be decisive
According to Roberto Chinchero, the beginning of the next season could prove crucial in defining Ferrari’s 2027 driver lineup.
Future in balance
During his latest video published by Motorsport.com, Chinchero answered questions from fans about Ferrari’s future, specifically regarding Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. The journalist admitted that the next season’s car performance would play a key role in their future at Ferrari. He said: “I believe that the fate of Leclerc and Hamilton in red will be determined by the car in the first 7-8 races, up until Monaco. If the car proves to be competitive or at least capable of keeping the drivers in the title fight until the end, I think the same pairing could continue into 2027.”
In the event that the car is not very competitive, Roberto Chinchero outlined several possible scenarios: “I believe Hamilton would conclude his career this way – he gave it a try, it didn’t work out – and Leclerc would start looking around. Which I think he has already done, but this is normal in such situations.”
Leclerc’s management, according to recent reports, is already exploring several options. Roberto Chinchero explained the rationale behind these inquiries: “It is normal procedure, at any time you need to have a clear overview of the situation. You must have a plan B and a plan C ready. Max Verstappen will do it, Russell will do it, and, for example, Aston Martin will have to make some moves because we know whether Fernando Alonso will continue.”
