Sir Lewis Hamilton has been regarded as one of the best F1 drivers of all time, winning the joint most F1 titles, a total of 7, putting him on par with Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher. And so it’s probably fitting that today the focus is on Hamilton’s move to the manufacturer for whom Schumacher has seen and experienced so much glory and success. It was announced in April of this year that he would be moving over to them from 2025 onwards, having signed. The length of the deal has not yet been disclosed if it has been agreed upon, but it’s expected to be over the course of multiple years. And so if you’re wanting to bet on Formula 1 and you’re a Hamilton fan, you’ll need to remember that he’s moved to a new team.
There is a lot of expectation and pressure.
And there’s no doubt that there’s going to be a lot of expectation and pressure on Hamilton when the 2025 season kicks off. However, he is going to be against arch rival McLaren. Carlos Sainz, who currently drives for Ferrari and whom Hamilton is replacing, has even stated that McLaren has the best car in the sport at the moment. And so there’s no doubt he’s going to be hoping for some innovation when it comes to the design of Ferrari’s F1 car in order to give him that advantage. Everyone knows that he has the skill but having the car to match it is crucial. Especially in a sport like F1, where the tiniest improvements to a car can shave off split seconds, that can be the difference between multiple positions within a race.
Will he regret it?
The driver has actually been questioned as to whether he regrets the decision to join Ferrari and leave Mercedes but he has been adamant that he has no regrets at all. This was followed by the two Mercedes cars beating both Ferrari cars by finishing 3rd and 4th and then 5th and 6th, respectively, at the Spanish F1 meeting. At the same time, it seems that the move was amicable and not in bad taste, stating that he is and always will be a fan of Mercedes. However, it is understandable to question this as it was the second race in a row where the Ferrari’s had been beaten by both Mercedes cars.
Mercedes dominance over Ferrari
His third-place finish in Spain was his first podium finish of the season and so he himself is hoping to come back into form and start feeling the success and glory he is so used to. The announcement of the move from Mercedes to Ferrari wasn’t one that many of us could’ve predicted and did indeed leave a lot of the F1 world rather in shock, as it seems like a move to an inferior manufacturer when it comes to results and form was something that nobody would’ve expected from him. Particularly when he is chasing that 8th title that would take him to sitting at the top of the all-time winners leaderboard by himself, eclipsing Schumacher.
In Summary
As the saying goes, only time will tell when it comes to whether or not Hamilton will regret joining Ferrari. It will be interesting to see how he gets on in his first season with his new manufacturer and we will see if it proves to be the right move next year. However, for the time being, Hamilton is absolutely sure that he does not and will not regret moving to Ferrari from his former team, Mercedes.
