The decision of the British engineer
Ferrari will no longer have Jock Clear among its ranks. The British engineer, who joined the Maranello-based team in 2014, most recently served as head of the Ferrari Driver Academy and closely followed the development of Oliver Bearman during his formative years. Jock Clear’s role will now be taken over by Marc Gené.
After more than a decade with Ferrari and a very long and successful career in Formula 1, Clear explained the reasons behind his decision to step away from the Circus.
“24 races a year are a lot. I couldn’t imagine a role where I wouldn’t be at the track, and as I said, 24 races a year are a lot, so I decided to look for a new balance between life and work,” Clear explained when speaking to CasinoHawks.
The veteran British engineer also underlined his confidence in the new generation of Ferrari staff and his desire to focus on a different mission within motorsport.
“I have worked with some really intelligent girls and boys at Ferrari, between their twenties and thirties, who are gaining experience, and I know they can make it,” he added. “I want to help more and more girls at a young age get closer to motorsport, so that there is a bigger flow of girls entering motorsport.”
Jock Clear’s departure is a poignant reminder of the human cost associated with Formula 1’s record-breaking expansion. As the sport pushes toward a 24-race limit, even the most seasoned veterans are beginning to prioritize personal well-being over the life of a globetrotter. While Ferrari loses a wealth of institutional knowledge, the wider world of motorsport stands to gain from Jock Clear’s new mission. By turning his attention from the pit wall to the grassroots level, he is helping to ensure that the “dream of motorsport” is no longer just a boys’ club, but a reachable goal for everyone.
