The relationship between Charles Leclerc and Scuderia Ferrari has often been described as a passionate love story—one filled with emotional highs and crushing lows. At present, the Monegasque driver appears to be firmly stuck in the second phase of that story, a phase marked by setbacks, miscommunication, and deep frustration.
Now in his seventh season as a Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 driver, Charles Leclerc’s 2025 campaign has not only started poorly but has continued to spiral downward. In recent months, the level of underperformance has been so severe that fresh rumors have begun circulating regarding a possible transfer to another Formula 1 team. Whispers of change are growing louder as the results continue to disappoint both the team and its supporters.
Former Formula 1 driver Christian Danner recently weighed in on the current state of affairs at Ferrari. According to Danner, Leclerc is experiencing what he refers to as the classic “Ferrari frustration”—a phenomenon where even the most talented drivers eventually become disillusioned with the repeated failure to secure a World Championship title.
“Charles Leclerc is now going through what both Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel experienced during their time in Maranello. He finds himself trapped in that typical Ferrari cycle of frustration, when you slowly realize history is repeating itself and the championship is slipping away once again,” explained Danner.
The comparison to Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel is not made lightly. Both drivers arrived at Ferrari with stellar credentials and high expectations. Fernando Alonso, the Spanish driver who won two World Championship titles with Renault, came close to winning with Ferrari but ultimately fell short. Sebastian Vettel, who claimed four titles with Red Bull Racing, also failed to achieve championship success during his stint at the Italian team.
This troubling pattern raises concerns that Charles Leclerc may be following in the same footsteps—delivering standout performances but unable to convert them into titles due to limitations that lie not with the driver, but with the team and machinery provided.
There’s also a growing sense of unease surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s debut season with the team. While the seven-time World Champion joined Ferrari in 2025 with high hopes, his start has been far from ideal. Danner summed it up bluntly: “For Lewis Hamilton, this is turning into a season to forget. A turnaround might still come, but realistically, the 2025 World Championship already seems out of reach for Ferrari.”
As the Scuderia faces yet another season without challenging for titles, fans are reminded of the past—of legends who came close, yet left without fulfilling their championship dreams in red. The fear now is that Charles Leclerc could become the latest name added to that list, unless Ferrari manages to radically transform its technical direction and results in the near future.
