Why does Charles Leclerc not leave Ferrari? The answer comes directly from former Formula 1 driver Christian Danner, who explained what he sees as the only real reason why the Monegasque has not yet changed teams.
Christian Danner, a former racing driver who today works as a commentator and analyst for Formula 1, gave a very sharp and definitive opinion regarding the situation of Charles Leclerc at Scuderia Ferrari. In an interview with Motorsport-Magazin.com, the German highlighted how Charles Leclerc is currently experiencing a phase of reflection about his career and about the direction in which his professional future should go.
Why does Charles Leclerc not look for the much-desired personal glory in another team?
“It is clear that Leclerc is questioning whether his life as a driver, his career at Ferrari, will ultimately take him where he wants to go: to the World Championship,” explained Danner. “I am convinced that this year he has repeatedly asked himself: ‘But what am I doing here? Is this going to be another year that ends with nothing achieved?’”
According to Danner, the immense talent of the Ferrari driver from Monaco is not under debate, but the realistic alternatives available to him are not as strong as some may believe. “Leclerc is intelligent and analytical. He asks himself what possibilities actually exist. Mercedes? What George Russell is doing there, Leclerc could easily do as well. Red Bull? At the moment the team is in the middle of a technical fiasco, and on top of that he would have to go up against Max Verstappen. McLaren? Of course everyone would like to go there right now, but that team does not need him. This means that, realistically speaking, there are simply no real options.”
Nevertheless, it should be remembered that there were recent rumors of a private meeting between Charles Leclerc, his manager Nicholas Todt, and the head of another major team, which sparked speculation about possible future scenarios.
Despite that, the final message that Christian Danner wanted to deliver is very clear: Charles Leclerc must concentrate entirely on Ferrari and on the project currently underway at Maranello, regardless of the difficulties. “The alternatives simply do not exist,” Danner concluded. “Leclerc has to focus on what he already has.”
The words of the German former driver come at a delicate moment for Scuderia Ferrari, a team that continues to pursue consistent competitiveness while Charles Leclerc still waits for the opportunity to finally fight on equal terms for the Formula 1 World Championship title.
