Why Charles Leclerc is “confident” Ferrari can overcome 2022 weaknesses. Why Charles is "confident" Ferrari can overcome 2022 weaknesses.

Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc has explained why he is confident that the Maranello team will be able to learn from the recent mistakes and improve in in view of the second part of the 2022 Formula One season and most importantly ahead of the next season, when the Italian side will try once again to challenge Red Bull for the world titles.

Ahead of the summer break, Max Verstappen has build a solid advantage of 80 points over Charles Leclerc in the Drivers Championship, while Red Bull enjoy a gap of almost 100 points to Scuderia Ferrari in the Constructors’ standings.

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have also made a couple of mistakes in this first part of the 2022 F1 campaign, most recently the Monegasque driver’s crashing out of the lead of the French Grand Prix, but reliability issues and strategy mistakes from the Maranello team have resulted in a lot of points lost against Red Bull and Max Verstappen.

Just like it happened last time out at the Hungaroring circuit in Hungary, as the call to pit Charles Leclerc to cover Max Verstappen and mount the Hard tyres on his second stint proved a huge mistake, which pushed the Monegasque driver down to sixth place in the Hungarian Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc confirmed that he and the Maranello team are working hard to understand when things have gone wrong, and he admits that they still have a lot of progress to make to improve and be able to challenge Red Bull for the titles:

“Let’s say that we know we need to work on that,” Charles Leclerc said in an interview for BBC – “We want to do absolutely everything to get better in every single thing we do, and obviously looking at the first part of this season, there have been some strategy problems, there have been some reliability problems and there have been driving mistakes. On reliability and strategy, we are working extremely hard to get better. And after a mistake, we always go through exactly the same process, which is to try and analyse from where the mistakes come, why did we take the wrong decision at a certain point of the race, in order to go forwards. As soon as we understand a mistake, then we can move on.” – he added.

According to Charles Leclerc, he and his Maranello teammate Carlos Sainz are “very involved” with the discussions, and the Monegasque has “the confidence that we will get better”.

Asked about why he is confident things can improve for him and for Scuderia Ferrari, Charles Leclerc pointed out that “the way that we work, because I know how tough it’s been the last few years to get back to where we are. And I know that we arrived to that level because for two years we have been working on those weaknesses of the car. So, we still have weaknesses and we need to work on them. But if we work as well as we did in the last two years on other weaknesses, I am confident we will overcome them.” – the Monegasque driver concluded.
