Charles Leclerc has officially renewed with Ferrari, while there has been no announcement yet for Carlos Sainz. The love story between Charles Leclerc and Ferrari will continue, while there is still no agreement for Carlos Sainz. Today, the Prancing Horse announced the renewal of the Monegasque driver.
There were no doubts, it was just a matter of time before the official announcement came. Through a press release, the Maranello team has renewed Leclerc for “many seasons to come,” meaning he will wear red indefinitely.
Charles Leclerc is the future of Ferrari, and it is with them that he wants to become a world champion. This is not news either.
A different story for his teammate. Carlos Sainz was the only non-Red Bull driver to win a race in 2023. The Spaniard has consistently demonstrated skill in the three seasons in red, making a name for himself as a very precise and analytical driver. Yet, this seems not to be enough for Maranello.
Some expected a joint renewal for the two ‘Carlitos,’ which did not happen. And there might be a reason for that.
Carlos Sainz’s situation is quite complicated. Ferrari intends to continue, but for how long is unknown. The most likely hypothesis is that Carlos Sainz wants to ask for a two-year contract (he himself has said he wants more than a two-year deal). Ferrari, on the other hand, probably wants to offer him only one year and then look around for 2026.
The problem is: which driver could replace Sainz? There are various possibilities, starting with Alexander Albon, currently linked to Williams. There is also the option of Lando Norris, but the chances are slimmer as McLaren seems to want to keep their protege.
We will understand in the coming weeks what Ferrari’s decision will be regarding Carlos Sainz and whether he will still be Charles Leclerc’s Maranello teammate beyond 2024.
