For the future of Pirelli Motorsport, continuity is the key word. Here is who Dario Marrafuschi is, the man chosen to replace Mario Isola at the helm of Pirelli’s racing division.
Dario Marrafuschi has been appointed as the new Head of Pirelli Motorsport, taking over from Mario Isola, who earlier today announced his departure. In reality, Marrafuschi is far from a new face within the group, having built extensive experience inside the company over many years. That is precisely why his appointment comes as no surprise: Pirelli has opted for continuity as it prepares for the next phase of its Formula 1 journey.
Marrafuschi graduated in engineering from the Politecnico di Milano in 1999, laying the foundations for a career deeply rooted in high-level motorsport technology. He later worked for Scuderia Ferrari for approximately four years, from 2004 to 2008. During that period, he served as a Vehicle Dynamics Engineer, analysing car behaviour on track and contributing to performance optimisation. While at the Maranello-based team, he was also involved in tyre development, at a time when Formula 1 was supplied by Bridgestone.
This strong technical background allowed him to take a significant step forward in 2008, when he joined Pirelli. Marrafuschi initially held engineering roles before gradually moving into senior management positions. Between 2016 and 2019, he was responsible for the Research and Development (R&D) area within the Motorsport division, coordinating technological challenges across top-tier racing categories, including Formula 1.
In 2020, he further expanded his professional profile by taking on a leading role in the development of high-performance road car tyres, strengthening his expertise not only in racing applications but also in premium automotive technology.
As of today, Dario Marrafuschi has officially been named the new Head of Pirelli Motorsport. His task will be crucial: guiding Formula 1 through upcoming regulatory and, above all, technological challenges as the sport continues to evolve. His appointment will become effective from 1 March 2026.
To ensure the smoothest possible transition, Marrafuschi will initially work alongside outgoing Motorsport chief Mario Isola. The goal is to guarantee maximum stability within the group during this delicate handover period, as Pirelli prepares for a new era at the heart of Formula 1.
