Among the rumors swirling in the paddock, there are discussions about breaches of the spending cap. According to the rumors, three teams would have violated the budget cap in 2022, and on the eve of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the names of the possible culprits are being mentioned.
Among the voices emerging in the paddock and various newspapers, it seems that the main suspects are two teams. The teams that would have violated the budget cap in 2022 are Aston Martin and Alpine.
To avoid a situation similar to what happened with Red Bull regarding the violation in 2021, Stefano Domenicali has called for sporting sanctions for any potential culprits. Such penalties would be punitive towards the results of the 2022 Formula 1 championship. At the moment, there are no official statements, but it appears that some teams are already feeling at ease, unlike others that, despite the FIA’s official denials, are under more thorough evaluations.
To the duo composed of Aston Martin and Alpine, a third team could be added, as reported by Corriere dello Sport. The rumors involve a top team, more precisely, either Mercedes or Red Bull. From England, Toto Wolff’s team seems to be the most credible potential culprit. For the Milton Keynes-based team, it would be a case of recidivism, which could be punished.
As reported by FormulaPassion, possible sanctions range from a reprimand to exclusion from the championship. “Below this threshold ($7.06 million), it would be, in any case, a Minor Breach. Above it – it continues – the infringement would be a Material Breach, which obviously would lead to a more severe sanction.”
