It is no secret that there is a long-standing friendship between Marc Marquez and Carlos Sainz, favored by the sponsorship of both by the Estrella Galicia beer company, which often organizes events with the participation of the two icons of Spanish motorsport.
The last occasion was the meeting at MEGA, the museum of the Spanish company, which brought together the MotoGP racer and the Formula 1 driver and made them available to the wide audience of journalists, eager to ask questions to the two Spaniards. One question proved to be particularly interesting, namely which Formula 1 driver could be Marc Marquez and, conversely, which MotoGP driver could Carlos Sainz be.
There were few doubts in Carlos Sainz’s reply, as the Ferrari driver said directly: “Marc Marquez in Formula 1 would be Ayrton Senna. I have no doubts about that, because he’s the only one I’ve seen do impossible things, like Senna did.” Prodded about a possible parallel with Max Verstappen instead, he didn’t change his mind: “Perhaps Max too, but I prefer Senna”, reiterated the Ferrari driver.
A lot more uncertainty in Marc Marquez’s response: “I’m in doubt between two. He could be Pecco Bagnaia, because he took a long time to explode, but now he’s at the top. But also Alex Crivillé, even if unlike him Carlos Sainz will win more than one title. In Spain we have already had Fernando Alonso, who I would compare with Nieto, so a comparison with Crivillé is fine for Carlos“.
