As we have now reached the ninth round of the Formula 1 World Championship, not counting the Azerbaijan GP Sprint Race, it is inevitable that some components of the cars are at risk of wear. However, according to the regulations, there is a limit to the number of parts that can be replaced on a single-seater before incurring a penalty. The FIA has released a report today, ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, documenting all the components used so far by each driver, with a particular focus on the Power Unit and gearbox.
Regarding the engine elements, almost all drivers have used only two of each of the following: ICE, Turbocharger, MGU-K, and MGU-H. There are two exceptions: Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly, who have already used three of these components. This means that they will incur a grid penalty at the next change. The number of exhaust pipes also stands out for the Englishman, as he is the only one in the group to have used five, while his rivals remain at 3 or 4. This is a clear sign of the difficult start McLaren has had.
Among the Power Unit parts, there are only two drivers who have exceeded the allowed quota, indicated by their figures being in red. In this case, the individuals concerned are Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez. The first has already used 4 electronic control units and 3 energy storage units, which resulted in a penalty in Jeddah. The Mexican, on the other hand, has used 3 different electronic and energy-related parts, starting from the pit lane at the Australian GP.
As for the gearbox, unexpectedly, Max Verstappen is among the drivers at risk, having already used three of the four possible changes during the season. Ferrari man Charles Leclerc is also tied with this number once again. All the other drivers, however, have only replaced the gearbox or related components once so far.
