Scuderia Ferrari is looking for its frirst Formula 1 drivers’ title in 15 years. The last driver to achieve such a great result was Kimi Raikkonen, back in 2007, after a thrilling and amazing fight with McLaren. Since then Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel have come the closest men to winning the title for the Maranello team, but without succeeding.
After several complicated seasons – and after more than a decade from the unforgettable triumph of Interlagos – the most famous team in the history of Formula 1 is ready to restart the challenge for race wins and titles, in an attempt to break the second longest winless period in the history of the team, after the 21 seasons between 1979 and 2000. At that time, Michael Schumacher, who had already won two world titles with Benetton, interrupted the negative streak.
This time, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will have the task of trying to bring Scuderia Ferrari back on top, while they chase the first F1 title. For the Spanish driver it is also a matter of looking for the first race win. The former McLaren driver however, at the end of a splendid first season in red, seems to have already perfectly understood the special value that the Ferrari car has for millions of fans and enthusiasts in Italy and around the world: “In Ferrari it’s different – said Carlos Sainz, interviewed by the official F1 podcast, Beyond the Grid – because the fans are really passionate and crazy for Formula 1 and the team. This is something I have never experienced before. I’ve seen people go crazy for me in Spain, but here you can see that the fans are crazy for something bigger than you.” – Carlos admitted.

Thus, even a proud Madrilenian like Carlos Sainz began to feel a bit Italian: “It’s like you’re tasked with making the whole brand, the whole country proud. Not yourself or the public. You have the task of bringing the Cavallino to the top. It’s like playing for a national team: you are representing Italy when you drive for Ferrari.” – the Spanish driver added.
While waiting to win behind the wheel of the F1-75 car, Carlos Sainz has meanwhile decided to ‘treat himself’ to a Ferrari road car. The fact of driving for the F1 team, however, does not seem to be a guarantee for a substantial discount on the price: “I’m buying a new Ferrari, it’s my first [Ferrari] that I buy. Do I get a discount? I might have a little discount, but not much. Not as much as you might think” – he joked.
