Let’s take a look at the weather forecast for the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix (latest weather forecast for Marina Bay):
One of the most important factors ahead of any Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend is of course represented by the weather conditions, which can have a great impact on the outcome of the race. From the Formula 1 teams’ point of view, different weather conditions can result in very different races, and Formula 1 teams are always focused on this aspect in order to evaluate and choose their strategy options accordingly, for example using different tyres in wet conditions, and taking account of cross winds which can cause stability problems at high speeds.
This means that we should always keep on eye out on the weather before any Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend given the fact that it can often throw a curve ball into the mix. However, this time Marina Bay seems to be a straightforward weekend, at least for Saturday and Sunday, when the main events take place.
The weather conditions for this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix will most likely to present Formula 1 drivers and teams with a range of different challenges, because as usual, this part of the world is well-known for its severe afternoon thunderstorms and this weekend may not be an exception. These are expected to be particularly vigorous over the coming days and could have a bearing on the on-track action, which largely takes place in the late afternoon and early evening.
The earliest on-track session is first practice and this first session could well be affected by rain. The more significant qualifying and race have a better change of taking place on a dry track, though of course it depends just how much rain falls, as there is an overall 60% chance of rain on Sunday around the Marina Bay area.
In addition to this, there is also the matter of air quality. Hazy conditions, mostly as a result of the winds carrying dust from forest fires in nearby Indonesia. This has coincided with the race weekend in other years, but for now it has not caused any major disruption.
