Let’s take a look at the weather forecast for the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (latest weather forecast for Yas Marina):
Just one more stop for Formula 1 this season after the Interlagos race, which took place last weekend in Brazil. The last race of the 2022 Formula 1 championship is scheduled to be held at the Yas Marina circuit and as usual one of the key aspects ahead of any Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend is of course represented by the weather forecast, which can have a huge impact on the outcome of the race on Sunday. From the Formula 1 teams’ point of view, different weather conditions may lead to very different races, and Formula 1 teams are always focused on this aspect in order to evaluate and choose their strategy options accordingly, for example using different tyres in wet or mixed conditions, and taking account of cross winds which can cause stability issues at high speeds.
This means that we should always keep on eye out on the weather before any Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend given the fact that it can often throw a curve ball into the mix. However, this time Yas Marina seems to be a straightforward weekend, at least for Saturday and Sunday, when the main events take place.
Given the location, rain is unlikely to fall ( it is almost never rain during this time of the year in Abu Dhabi) but as always there is still the question of gusts and temperature fluctutations as sessions take place across the evening and night at Yas Marina Circuit.
Conditions appear good ahead of the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend: Sunny, warm and pleasant conditions are expected for Sunday’s race at the Yas Marina circuit, with temperatures of about 28 for the afternoon, but as the race progresses, the temperatures will continue to go down. This means that the work carried out the teams and drivers during the Friday practice sessions will be even more important than usual, with typically dry, warm conditions expected across all three days.
The changes made to the track last year will also have a significant bearing on the conditions drivers face. Much of the Yas Marina circuit was reconfigured and resurfaced in 2021 with a darker asphalt which is likely to retain more heat. The rest of the track surface will be older and rougher, but also lighter, and therefore potentially cooler.
