Here’s what Ferrari must do to “put out the fire of rumors” surrounding Maranello
There are always constant rumors and criticisms surrounding Ferrari, and Frédéric Vasseur is growing tired of it. The Scuderia has only one way to break this vicious cycle.
Ferrari finds itself in a challenging situation after the remarkable 2024 season, with persistent speculation about potential departures among Maranello’s technical staff. Fred Vasseur is frustrated with these rumors, but if the team wants to interrupt this endless cycle, there is only one solution.
It is often said that Ferrari is the team under the most scrutiny in Formula 1. This is true, but the spotlight has always been on them because their history has established them as the benchmark in the sport. Today, however, that dominance is long gone, and there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. Ferrari needs to start winning again, or the records it set in the past may soon be surpassed. In recent weeks, rumors about Wolf Zimmermann and Lars Schmidt leaving the team have further irritated Fred Vasseur, who dismissed these topics as “a joke.” According to Italian journalist and well-known Ferrari insider Leo Turrini, there is only one way to silence these rumors.
Turrini: “We’ve reached autumn and still…”
“Have I seen this before? Yes. Does it bring you down? Yes, although life has other dramas. But still, it’s sad. What hurts the most about this Ferrari is its slow, relentless slide into anonymity. When McLaren seems to mysteriously falter, Ferrari does not step in. Not at all. In fact, the post-race litany has become tiresome: the performance could have been there, we didn’t manage to put it all together, the tires didn’t reach temperature as usual, sometimes it’s the floor, sometimes it’s the declining power, and so on and so forth.” Leo Turrini wrote this on his Profondo Rosso blog after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He emphasizes that Ferrari’s results are increasingly wearing on the fans. The future does not appear bright either, with the 2026 project still surrounded by uncertainty. Fred Vasseur’s complaints achieve little because there is still much work to be done.
“In Maranello, are responsibilities unclear or scattered? We’ve reached autumn, and there is still no solution to the technical or managerial problems. Fred Vasseur has every right to complain about the excessive chatter surrounding Ferrari, but he should understand that only victories can put out the fire of rumors. Instead, we are still here, staring at an impotence that breeds resignation. This is unacceptable, absolutely unacceptable.” – the Italian journalist concluded.
We can only agree. Ferrari must wake up and shake off this mediocrity if it truly wants to return to the top. However, it must be acknowledged that the problems originate from those in charge—people who seem focused only on financial gains rather than sporting excellence.
