WEC 2026: 6 Hours of Spa FP2 results. Alpine dominates FP2 session
The second free practice session for the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship 6 Hours of Spa took place at 15:30 CET at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit, often described as the “university of motorsport” due to its technical complexity and demanding layout.
The session was held under weather conditions similar to those seen during the opening free practice earlier in the day, with mostly cloudy skies, air temperatures around 12°C, and track temperatures close to 21°C. While conditions were slightly more representative than FP1, teams are still expecting very different circumstances for Friday and Saturday running.
Alpine impresses with dominant Hypercar performance
The 90-minute session passed relatively smoothly, interrupted only by a brief Full Course Yellow period that later escalated into a red flag during the final half hour. Despite the interruptions, teams were still able to complete a substantial amount of setup and long-run work.
The standout story of the session was undoubtedly Alpine’s pace. The French manufacturer locked out the top two positions and also demonstrated very encouraging race pace throughout the session.
BMW also delivered a strong performance, placing both cars comfortably inside the top positions and confirming the competitiveness already hinted at earlier in the weekend.
Ferrari, meanwhile, appeared to struggle both over a single lap and during longer stints. Toyota and Cadillac also remained further down the order, although the #38 Cadillac showed occasional flashes of competitiveness.

At the top of the Hypercar standings was the #36 Alpine A424, which set the fastest time of the session with a lap of 2:01.816. The sister #35 Alpine A424 secured second position with a 2:02.090, finishing 0.274 seconds behind the leading car.
Third place went to the BMW WRT Hypercar, which posted a 2:02.179 lap time, just 0.363 seconds off the session-leading Alpine.
LMGT3: Aston Martin takes control in second practice
The LMGT3 category also completed its second free practice session shortly afterwards, once again delivering an extremely close and competitive field.
As has often been the case this season, the margins between teams remained incredibly small, making predictions for qualifying and the race increasingly difficult.
Leading the LMGT3 standings at the end of FP2 was the Aston Martin from the Heart of Racing team, which recorded a fastest lap of 2:17.769.
Second place went to the #34 Corvette from Race Team Turkey, which finished just 0.202 seconds behind with a lap time of 2:17.972.
Completing the unofficial top three was the Iron Lynx Mercedes, which stopped the clock at 2:18.210, ending the session 0.441 seconds away from the class-leading Aston Martin.
Attention now turns to FP3
With Alpine showing strong early pace and Ferrari still searching for answers, attention now shifts to the third free practice session, scheduled for 10:10 CET.
The next session could provide a much clearer indication of the true competitive order ahead of qualifying and the 6 Hours of Spa race itself, especially if track conditions become more representative of the weekend ahead.
