Toyota dominates Hyperpole, Ferrari and Porsche underperform
A revitalized Toyota GR010 secured the entire front row in the Hyperpole session of the 2025 Bahrain 8 Hours. It has been a long time since the Japanese manufacturer has shown such qualifying competitiveness. Leading the way, the #7 GR010 set a time of 1:46.826, followed closely by the #8 GR010, just 0.151 seconds behind with a 1:46.977. In third and fourth positions, the two Peugeot cars trailed by three-tenths of a second.
It is no coincidence that both Peugeot and Aston Martin—each fielding both cars in Hyperpole—remain extremely competitive. For the past three races, the performance gap created by the BoP relative to the top teams has allowed them to achieve strong results.
Today, Ferrari suffered the most, with the #50 and #83 failing to reach Hyperpole and the #51 finishing only seventh. Porsche also faced a setback, with the #6 contender for the drivers’ championship missing out on the top ten. While the race will likely unfold differently from qualifying, starting so far back is never ideal for teams fighting for key points.
LMGT3 Hyperpole: Lexus tops the class
In the LMGT3 category, Lexus dominated qualifying at the Bahrain 8 Hours. The two Lexus cars finished in first and fourth positions, reflecting the strong performance seen in all three practice sessions. The #78 car claimed Hyperpole with a time of 2:01.661. The #60 Mercedes from Iron Lynx secured second, 0.326 seconds behind at 2:01.987, while the sister car #61 was just thirty-thousandths slower, completing the virtual podium.
In fourth place, the other Lexus from Akkodis ASP Team showed solid pace. The first Ferrari 296, #21, finished eighth, one second off the top time. Porsche struggled again, remaining outside the top ten, setting up a challenging race ahead for their championship ambitions.
