Ferrari chairman John Elkann has stated that, in order to be successful again in the future, the team has to “start over.”
The 2020 season turned out to be Ferrari’s least successful in a long time as they finish down in P6 in the Constructors’ Championship with no wins and just two podiums to their name.
With regulations remaining stable for the 2021 campaign, things aren’t likely to get much better any time soon, and Elkann believes that a fresh start is what is needed going forward.
“A great past does not necessarily mean a great present and a great future. We have to start over with humility,” he said during a conference call about the company’s financial accounts as per Gazzetta Dello Sport – “We are not satisfied with our current results in Formula 1 and we will work with humility and dedication to change them.”
The Italian company is currently missing a CEO after Louis Camilleri resigned with immediate effect for personal reasons in December.
In the same call though, Elkann stated that, in order to make the best possible appointment, they won’t rush to find a replacement: “We will take the time to find the best possible one,” he added.
Louis Camilleri was one of team principal Mattia Binotto’s closest allies at Ferrari, overseeing his appointment following the axing of Maurizio Arrivabene.
