“We are very satisfied with Mick Schumacher, we are following him very closely without putting pressure on him. Before we decide when Mick is ready for Ferrari, he has to finish this year, without pressure, we don’t have to put pressure on him, that would be wrong. But we are watching him closely. We expect a lot from him.” Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto describes the approach of the Ferrari Driver Academy towards the reigning Formula 2 champion in Mick’s Formula 1 debut year. The Haas driver is clearly winning the direct confrontation with his teammate in the Haas garage, Nikita Mazepin, and in Hungary before the summer break he was the protagonist of a good duel with Max Verstappen in the first stint of the Hungaroring race.
The Ferrari team principal stressed that he expects surprises in 2022 from Mick Schumacher: “In his second year, Haas will probably be great for Mick because he will have the opportunity to show how good he is in F1. We know he is a good driver” – the words of Mattia Binotto interviewed by the German broadcaster RTL – “Mick has clear objectives and obviously among these there is that of driving a Ferrari one day ”. For this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, the Ferrari junior decided to mark the anniversary of his father’s Formula 1 debut with a special Belgian GP helmet.
