Watch: unstoppable Kimi Raikkonen strolls to Sepang victory | 2008 Malaysian GP. Felipe makes error, Kimi wins.

On 23rd March 2008, the Malaysian Grand Prix took place in Sepang. It was a case of Ferrari dominance right from qualifying, with the F2008 monopolising the front row, with Massa ahead of Raikkonen by 482 thousandths. Jarno Trulli (Toyota) and Robert Kubica BMW-Sauber were the only other drivers within the same second.

In the race, the two Ferrari soon left the others trailing in their wake and looked to be heading for a guaranteed one-two finish. However, the pit stops jumbled up the order and played a significant role in the outcome of the race. Raikkonen actually managed to get ahead of his team-mate and began to pull away from the Brazilian.

On lap 31, desperate to close up on his team-mate, the Brazilian hit the kerb at Turn 6 very heavily, lost control of the car and his race ended there. At that early point in the season, Felipe couldn’t have imagined how important that lost second place would have been come the end of the season, when he lost the title to Lewis Hamilton by a solitary point.
