The 1996 Australian Grand Prix was held at Melbourne on 10 March 1996. It was the first race of the 1996 Formula One World Championship, and the first Australian Grand Prix to be held at Melbourne, taking over from Adelaide.
The first GP of the 47th Formula 1 season was Michael’s first race with Scuderia Ferrari, the start of one of the greatest, most beautiful and most honest love affairs that Formula One has ever seen.
Michael held on in third place, but dropped back half a minute with his second pit stop. Eventually Michael Schumacher’s first race for Ferrari ended on lap 32 with brake problems. Teammate Eddie Irvine went on to finish in 3rd place.
