The Syracuse Grand Prix was held on 11th April 1954. The race was run over 80 laps of the 5.500 meters track, making a total distance of 440 kilometres. There were no less than six Ferraris entered. The Scuderia had brought along three 625 F1 for the Italian Giuseppe Farina, the Englishman Mike Hawthorn and France’s Maurice Trintignant. There was also a 553 F1 for the Argentine Froilan Gonzalez, while competing the sextet were two privately entered 500 F2 for the Belgian Roger Laurent, entered under the Ecurie Francorchamps banner and Frenchman Robert Manzon. The race was totally dominated by Farina who crossed the line with an amazing two lap lead over the first of his pursuers, his team-mate Trintignant and five laps in front of third placed Italian Sergio Mantovani in a Maserati.

Fourth was Laurent. The race was marked by an accident on lap 6 which involved, among others, Hawthorn and Gonzalez.
