After just nine minutes into the initial practice session, Carlos Sainz came to a halt at Turn 17, having encountered a dislodged drain cover in his SF-23. Footage from the onboard camera reveals the moment he ran over the cover, causing an immediate engine shutdown. External CCTV images captured from the nearby Bellagio Hotel depict a cascade of sparks following the impact.
